London’s wonderful modern transport system

The City of London has without doubt got one of the most comprehensive public transport systems in the world: right up there with Paris, Rome or New York! Whether it’s the Tube, taxi or rickshaw…London’s got it all so you should never be without a ride.London

The Underground Tube network has 11 lines and 270 stations and it’s fast, clean and cheap…the iconic design map shows exactly how the lines connect so always keep it handy – every little ring means a station to change to another line: easy!

But you first need to get from the airport into town so a shuttle service is what you want and there are reliable, honest private transfers outside every terminal.
From Heathrow, the private transfer is loads cheaper than a taxi and of course it’s less trouble avoiding queues. Look out for your driver showing a sign for your name if you’ve pre-booked and they will also do you a special deal if there are two or three in your group.
From Gatwick and Stansted it’s the same so choose private transfer shuttle…you could get a trip to your hotel for a bargain £12!

In London you’ll use the famous ‘Black Cab’ taxis – much cheaper than the private hire ones. The cab driver will be a real character and they are famous for their ‘gift of the gab’ stories as well as The Knowledge that they all have to take you to any street you name in the capital.

Jump onto a brilliant red Routemaster double-decker bus and do a hop-on, hop-off open top bus tour of the sights…or you have the Docklands Light Railway with its driverless trains around East London…then you could even hire a bicycle – Boris Johnson’s cool ‘grab-a-bike’ idea – from any of the docking stations around town and the first half-hour is free too!

So there is London’s wonderful modern transport system: use it, trust it, enjoy it!
